Are some color-vision tests unfair?: Who says who is colorblind, anyway?

Visual Mill

for Windows

Color-vision testing software

For complete self-evaluation of color blindness and for learning about the classic diagnostic tools of color vision.  Plus, they are fun to take!

The Visual Mill software suite for Windows is composed of 4 modules:

  • Dichotomous Tests
  • FM 100-hue arrangement test
  • Pseudo-Isochromatic Plates
  • Color Matching and Threshold module

The Dichotomous module has four color arrangement tests of different difficulty. It can provide a diagnosis of type.

The Farnsworth-Munsell 100-Hue test is the standard for color vision diagnosis.

It is the most complete color arrangement test.  It is used to detect regions of color confusion as well as to quantify color discrimination ability (including people with normal color vision).

The Pseudo-Isochromatic (PIC) module lets you experiment with plates of vanishing designs.  PICs, such as Ishihara, HHR and Dvorine, are commonly used in screening candidates for jobs that have color discrimination requirements.

You can take a test timed by the computer. Or you can explore each plate with a color-key showing the foreground and background colors.
